Road Trip (Part 1)

I think I might have finally recovered from our jaunt through America's northeast.  7 states in 7 days will wipe you out.   Thankfully good ol' Columbus discovered America so I got an extra day to getlaundryandcleanhouse plant my rear on the couch and watch trashy tv.  Priorities.

I'm fairly sure my mom might be the only one who reads this and since she did her own recaps here, this might be a little repetitive,  but maybe it will be a little different perspective.

We flew in to Pittsburgh Saturday afternoon and hit the ground running.  Which I'm grateful for since I found out about a month ago that I had actually booked our tickets for 8 PM instead of AM.  Whoops.  After a small breakdown at work we finally got everything sorted out.  First issue at hand was food.  That's what you do on vacation, right? Anyway, we went to Primanti Bros. and had our obligatory sandwiches complete with french fries and coleslaw right in there with the rest of it.

Mom's clearly excited about it.

Then we took the Duquesne Incline (pronounced doo-cane...weird) up to a beautiful lookout.  Pittsburgh really is a beautiful city.

Mom really isn't too sure about riding it up.  It has been in service since 1877 so it did sound a little creaky.

 Oooh Aaah

We drove around a little ways out in the country to creepily drive by the house I lived in for a summer but hopefully they didn't mind. :)

After a slight detour since you may get lost after not driving somewhere 5 1/2 years we finally made it back to the hotel.

Sunday we went to church at the lovely Expressway Baptist Church.  This is where I served as a summer missionary in 2007.  It feels both like yesterday and and entire lifetime ago.  TONS of good memories and it was wonderful to catch up with everyone, especially the Cogley's, my home away from home that summer.  Hopefully next time it won't take 5 1/2 years to get back.

After a great lunch we were on the road again. Cue Willie Nelson. Jen told us about a scenic route to Lancaster, our next stop so we headed that way.  Either she didn't mention, or I didn't listen that we would be driving through mountains.  Beautiful, peak of the season fall colored leaves mountains.  It was so beautiful but you guys don't get to see because we didn't take pictures.  fail.  In my defense, driving up crazy high mountains is scary and there wasn't really anywhere to pull over.  You'll just have to take my word for it.

Or you could look at this picture stole from google.  While we didn't see any waterfalls, we did see that beautiful view on the right.  Breathtaking.

The next morning we woke up in Lancaster, Pa and tried to take a drive to some old covered bridges.  The website where I found the directions was a little less than clear, so really we just drove around a lot of Amish country.  It was also very beautiful.  Seriously, I really think Pennsylvania is generally underrated.  You should go.

We could not stop laughing at this picture.  I'm still laughing now.

Next stop, Philadelphia. If this trip is sounding a little crazy, it is.  We saw so many things in a relatively short amount of time.  We weren't going to be here for long, so we hit the highlights.  Rocky, Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, and Philly Cheese steaks.  Yum.  We forgot to take a picture of the food but as you can see it was delicious.

Well, I feel like I've already dumped a lot on you, so I'll write about the rest of the trip later.  Hopefully it won't be another month from now like normal posts. :)
